NATURAL PARKS

Fanes - Sennes and Braies Nature Reserve

Established in 1980, the park covers a vast area around Badia and connects the three valleys. It includes the plateaus of Fanes, Senes and Braies lake, which give the name to the park and some of the most famous peaks of the Dolomites, Seekofel and Croda Rossa d'Ampezzo.

The park is famous for peculiarity of fauna which houses since the Palaeolithic age. In this area have been found fossil rests of a prehistoric bear, which was vegetarian and as big as a Grizzly. The findings near San Cassiano are now kept in the Ursus Ladinicus museum, that offers an overview of natural park as well as history and a full scale model of famous prehistoric bear. Marmots are a nice species to spot, they are symbol of park and their whistles can be heard kilometers away. Another wonderful specie to spot is the Highlander, recently introduced in this area, this funny bull with long horns is originally from Scotland, but is rapidly settle in our beautiful Dolomites.

One of the main access to the park, is in San Cassiano, 10-minute drive from the hotel, we recommend a visit to both the Alte Vie that runs through the park or just for a walk among the pine forests.

Puez-Odle Natural Reserve

Localized in front of Sporthotel Teresa, the park takes its name from the two mountain ranges that encloses, Puez and Odle and is crossed by Alta Via 2 from north to south. The protected area includes several peaks that reach and exceed quota 3000mt. The exceptional geological diversity makes the park unique and a destination for geology enthusiasts.

Dolomite, rock typical of the Dolomites, here becomes unique and spectacular, it form towers and pinnacles, taking the name of Schlern dolomite. Hikers and mountaineers frequent the park, climbing the beautiful Vie Ferrate that suit all levels of difficulty, from the simplest one up to the famous ascent of Sassongher south face, which was climbed for the first time in august 1900 by Mr. Kostner.

To visit: Into the park, almost 1 hour and 30 minutes far from Sporthotel Teresa there is a special path, the nature trail that starts near the Malga Zannes, is a fence surrounds a zone populated by deer, fallow and roe deer. Just over 3 kilometers there are tables that tell about the fauna of the park also through the Braille language. The path with a gradient of 8% is confortable also to be done in wheelchairs.​​​​​​​
